Trees

TREES

Before buying or attempting to grow a tree, find out how big it is going to be after say ten years so you can choose something appropriate.

An old pair of tights make excellent ties for staking young trees.

Bulbs that flower in spring can be planted under a tree, as they are unlikely to be in the shade when in flower.

If you are staking a tree, tie the stake fairly low to support the base, thereby encouraging the tree to harden its trunk more quickly and creating stronger growth overall.

Planting trees in autumn that will survive the winter gives them much more time to root, and they will do it more effectively, than trees planted in spring.
