Seeds And Propagation

SEEDS AND PROPAGATION

Select hardy seedlings that don't need much care other than regular watering. Examples are marigolds, petunias and pansies.

If collecting seeds from a seed head, an old gardener's trick is to cover the head with a paper bag and shake it so that by keeping the bag closed and turning it over, the seeds are collected easily.

Putting clingfilm over seed trays while starting the seeds will keep them moist.

If you are using a propagator, make sure you wipe the inside cover clean of condensation, to avoid restricting the amount of light getting through.

If it is difficult to see where you are sowing seeds, to avoid wastage add something to them that you can see, for example sharp sand which also helps drainage.
