SMALL GARDEN

Try to emphasise the longest line across a small garden, e.g. the diagonal, or the longest lines of vision across areas of the garden in order to create an impression of more space.

Work on one area at a time and let the garden evolve. What might be a great display one year may not be the same next year.

Divide the garden up to avoid it all being taken in at a glance, and to stimulate curiosity as to what is around that corner, behind that fence or on top of that roofed trellis, etc.

Larger plants and brighter colors closer to the viewing point creates an impression of more depth to the area.

Bricks in walls soak up moisture from the surrounding soil so always make sure that you plant the right type of plant near brick walls.
